There are moments when color inspires. Moments when you can hold something, and it seemingly transforms you.
Aiysha says, “Creativity has been in my blood from an early age. I have been an artist for about 20 years.” Her accolades reiterate her talent, “I attended a four-year private art college in Massachusetts, where I studied Fine Art. I graduated as an illustrator with expertise in drawing and painting. Later down the road, I focused on painting and mixed media art because I love working with my hands and using various materials.”
I love her Magpie Denim Clutch. The green magpie is electrifying on the dark denim. The floral design that lines the inside and accents the outside is a delicate touch that only enhances the clutch as “art.”
When it comes to creating, Aiysha says, “I do well working under pressure, and most of my ideas come from my travel experiences. I traveled a lot and lived abroad two years ago in the Middle East (Dubai). When I travel, I gained a lot of valuable cultural and art experiences, and meet a lot of interesting people from around the world. I had quite a journey and knowledge to share.”
With her love for travel and the influence of places she’s been, Aiysha reveals, “I find myself incorporating Middle Eastern and Asian influences into my art such as design, patterns, and bright colors because it is the region, culture, and people that interest me the most. I try to buy most of my materials from overseas because I find them interesting, very uncommon, and unique thus use them in my craft projects.”
Outside of her travel inspiration, Aiysha confesses most of her inspiration comes from, “My supportive boyfriend of six years, and he loves art too (but is not an artist).”
Perhaps it’s her passion for travel, or simply it inspires her to do her passion. Either way, in Aiysha’s spare time, she “loves to travel and travels ALOT!”
When not traveling, “Weekends are my savior and time to catch up on creating since I do work a full-time 9-5, Monday through Friday. I would rather be doing something that I love to do full-time if it supports my lifestyle.”
She would like time to learn “Wood sculpting. It would be an interesting thing to do.”
With so much experience under her belt, Aiysha says her most significant accomplishment thus far has been, “Working at an established art gallery in Dubai! I always wanted to work at an art gallery and did not expect to be living and working that dream in the Middle East. I gained so much insight into the art world, and it’s a lot of work at an art gallery.”
Ten years from now, Aiysha sees herself, “Teaching art again and owning an art gallery.”
In the meantime, “You will most likely find me on facebook chatting away about this and that about my day and sharing new artwork. Occasionally, I poke around the Etsy forums offering advice to new Etsy sellers and Twitter under the name KhaliNouveau, of course. My personal website is http://www.khalinouveau.com/, and my Etsy shop, “KhaliNouveau.”
If you’re considering purchasing Khali Nouveau, “I am offering a bonus birdie ornament for any set of birdies bought in my shop and free shipping on vintage books for U.S. residents only.”
