Whoa! Yesteday Jillian Michaels’ 30-Day Shred gave me a reality check. Day One. The beginning. I completed the 22 minutes of agony and spent the rest of the day exhausted. Apricot Jam on hold. Dinner a crockpot creation. I was whipped.
This morning, my muscles screamed when I attempted to get out of bed. They trembled and shook. In a sleep stupor I dragged myself downstairs, using as few muscles as possible and plopped on the couch. Surely, death was coming for me and I hoped soon.
Then the Grim Reaper appeared, disguised as my six year old in an over-abundance of enthusiasm, “Ready for your workout, Mom!”
It’s hard to believe I was responsible for the creation of this little monster. Her blue eyes intensely looking at me, pondering why I no longer resembled her mother, but some lethargic woman content with just sitting. I smiled, “Sure. Let me just get my workout clothes on.”
I suppose I took a tad too long because next thing I knew, The Divine Miss M had my clothing next to me, my hand weights lined up and the video ready to roll.
Begrudgingly I suited up. It was painful. Who knew you use so many muscles to put on a bra!
Then it started.
The big arm movement at the beginning. Yesterday it was criteria for confidence. You know, ‘Ah, shucks! This isn’t so bad!” Today. Today I would have cried; except my child was in the room.
Yesterday I blasted out ten pushups. Today. Today I collapsed at three. I tried to rest quietly but my six year old said, “Only 5 seconds!”
The jump rope. I was pretty much just using my wrists to turn the imaginary rope. I’m relatively sure my feet didn’t really leave the ground.
Jumping Jacks. Really? Again!
I watched Anita, my resource as a beginner. I don’t believe any of the exercises are modified by Anita. I saw her pooled in sweat and the woman is IN SHAPE! I think Jillian should have put someone like me back there…you know, out of shape, fat and far less graceful. Not that I’d volunteer–I mean it’s Jillian Michaels!
In the end, I finished.
I’m a better friend today.
I was not compensated for this post. The opinons are my own. Others experience may vary.
