Ingredients:

1 egg

2 teaspoons butter

How to Fry and Egg:

Heat the pan: In a non-stick frying pan, over medium-high heat, melt the butter.

Make the Egg: Tap the egg on the side of a bowl and gently pull the eggshell apart over the bowl. Pick out any shell pieces, gently pour the egg into the pan, and immediately reduce the heat to low. Cook slowly until the whites are completely set and the yolk begins to thicken but isn’t firm (About 2 minutes). Quickly slide a flat-turner under the egg and gently flip it over in the pan. Cook egg to the desired doneness, about 30 seconds. Season with salt and pepper if you like.

ProTip:

Always cook the egg on low once your pan is heated.

If the pan is too hot, it will make a brown lace around the outside edge of the egg, and the egg will become tough and rubbery.

 

Egg in a Basket

This is also called Toad-in-a-Hole or Cookie-Cutter-Egg-Toast. It’s one pan breakfast where you cook your egg in a hold in bread that becomes toast as you cook.

Makes 1 Egg in a Basket

Ingredients:

1 Egg

2 teaspoons butter

1 slice of bread

How to Make Egg in a Basket

Prepare the bread:

Butter both sides of the bread.

Using a cookie cutter or butter knife, cut out the center of the bread slice.

Spray a small frying pan with non-stick cooking spray and place the bread and cutout in the pan.

Let cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes or until golden. Using a flat spatula, turn bread pieces over in a frying pan.

  • Cook the Egg: Break the egg into a bowl and remove any shells that may have fallen in. Slide the egg into the cutout and cover the frying pan with a lid. Cook slowly until the whites a set and the yolk thickens but is not firm for about five minutes.
