Helping Your Dog Sleep Through the Night

Many of us tend to view sleep problems as uniquely human issues. Since our pets are unable to talk to us, we seldom – if ever – notice any difficulties they may be having concerning sleeping through the night. Unbeknownst to many pet owners, dogs are just as susceptible to nighttime interruptions as we are (AKC) – in some cases, even more so! That being the case, anyone who suspects their pooch to be experiencing sleep issues would do well to nip this problem in the bud. Dog owners looking to provide their favorite canines with a peaceful night’s slumber should put the following tips to good use.

Invest in the Right Dog Bed

To call the quality of your Goldendoodle cost slumber important would be an understatement.

Most humans have considerable trouble sleeping in uncomfortable beds, and there’s no reason to assume the situation is any different for dogs.

So, when shopping around for the right canine bedding, take care to consider luxury dog beds.

The more comfortable the bed, the easier it will be for your best friend to get the peaceful night’s slumber it deserves.

When perusing your options, look for beds suited to your dog’s size and comfort needs.

Additionally, if you come across any beds uniquely suited to your dog’s specific breed, read up on what they offer.

Dog owners looking to provide their favorite canines with a peaceful night’s slumber should put the following tips to good use.

Exercise Your Dog Throughout the Day

A staggering number of dogs don’t get the proper amount of exercise.

Since their owners become caught up in their own lives, they seldom stop to consider how much physical activity their best friends truly require.

For many dogs, being let outside to answer the call of nature is their only opportunity for physical exertion.

More often than not, lack of exercise occurs due to pure ignorance instead of outright neglect on the part of guardians.

As is the case with humans, regular exercise can benefit dogs. (Pets WebMD).

In addition to keeping pooches happy and occupied, consistent physical activity helps them maintain a healthy weight and avoid various health problems.

Furthermore, exercise helps ensure that your best friends are able to sleep comfortably through the night.

The less exercise a dog gets, the more restless they’re likely to be.

In the case of high-energy, this can make them outright destructive.

The fact that they’re animals does not preclude canines from becoming bored, and a bored dog is liable to spend most of the day asleep, thus preventing it from enjoying a comfortable night’s rest.

To nip this problem in the bud, walk and play with your pooch daily.

The exact amount of physical activity your dog will require varies by breed, so educate yourself on your best friend’s unique exercise needs.

For best results, make sure your dog gets some exercise about an hour before bedtime, as playing with them too close to bedtime may have the opposite of the intended effect and get them riled up.

Make Sure Your Dog’s Sleeping Area is Free of Distractions

Dogs tend to be more sensitive to outside stimuli during the nighttime hours than humans.

As such, your pooch’s designated sleeping area is recommended to be free of distractions and conducive to relaxation.

For example, if you live in an area with a fair amount of outdoor light, it may be a good idea to hang thermal curtains over any nearby windows.

In addition to blocking out light better than standard curtains, thermal curtains also cancel out various noises.

When many of us consider our dogs’ needs, their slumber quality generally doesn’t factor into our thinking.

The way most people figure it, sleep issues are a human problem, not a canine one.

Unfortunately, dogs that suffer from poor-quality of slumber are often unable to communicate the issue to their guardians.

As such, it behooves every dog owner to keep an eye on their best friends’ quality of sleep and their sleeping environment.

In the quest to provide your pooch with a better night’s rest, the previously discussed pointers are sure to come in handy.
