Princess Couture Designs Feature

Name and location:

Princess Couture Designs, Northern Utah

Where did you get your “Store Front” name from?

The name Princess Couture Designs came from my belief that all girls are princesses and couture because it refers to the art and business of designing highly stylish pieces.

Put those together, and it describes my product line to a T. Highly stylish pieces for the princess in every girl!

What inspired you to open your Store Front?

I got a lot of requests from friends to make stuff they saw my daughter wearing, so I decided to share my hobby with the world and maybe make a little money from it.

I saw the outrageous prices of some hair accessories and thought if moms out there are like me, they can’t afford those, so I decided to open my own shop for the average mom who wants a stylish baby but doesn’t want the price tag that comes with it!

Where did you learn your talent?

My mom has always been really crafty and used to make all kinds of stuff for us, so I got my crafty gene from my mom, but I am a self-taught bow maker.

After spending four months on bedrest, you have lots of time to practice anything you have ever wanted to learn.

I haven’t looked back since, and I’m always on the lookout for something new to learn and try.

What do you think sets your product apart from others?

I think what sets me apart is the quality and detail I put into my work.

I make every piece as if it were for my own daughter.

I do this because I love it and want every piece to show it!

What has been your absolute favorite creation?

Wow, that’s a hard one.

Every piece is special to me.

One of my very favorite pieces is the Indigo bow made to match the Baby Gap collection.

I loved this collection and bought several pieces for my daughter, so she wears this bow a lot.

I think the colors really go well together.

It’s very girly but not it the typical pink way.

What inspires you to create?

Everything I do is for my daughter; she’s the reason I learned to make bows and the reason I do it every day.

Most of my creations come from something I’ve bought for her that I need a matching accessory for.

She’s my princess!

She deserves the best, and so do all the other princesses out there!

Can you tell us a little about your creating process?

A lot of my designs come to me at night when I’m supposed to be sleeping. I think of colors I like and how I can combine them, designs I think would look fantastic with certain outfits. Other times inspiration hits me walking through the fabric section of a store. I love fabric, and an idea for it just comes to me. I can have an idea floating in my head for weeks before I get time to create it.

Apart from creating things, what do you like to do?

I am a full-blown shopaholic! Since I work full time, a lot of my shopping happens online! Some of my favorite places are Etsy and Baby Gap. I order from them at least once a week. I also really enjoy spending time with my Family. I have a wonderful husband who supports an amazing daughter who is growing to fast and me. Nothing compares to movie night with them!

Is there any craft you don’t know how to do, but wish you did?

I really want to learn to sew better. I can do the basics, but I’m not a pro by any means. I got a new sewing machine, so my goal is to learn to use it. I also REALLY want to learn more about cake decorating. I have developed this recent obsession with cupcakes (maybe because it is the theme of my daughter’s upcoming birthday). I’m going to try to squeeze in that Wilson cake decorating class here soon!

How do you make time to craft?

Good question! I feel like I never have enough time for crafting, but I spend several hours after putting my daughter to sleep at my craft table. My poor husband often goes to bed alone cause I’m still working into the wee hours.

What is your greatest accomplishment in life thus far?

My greatest accomplishment is my Family! They are everything to me. I’ve always wanted to be a mom and wife. Now that I am, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Where do you see yourself in 10-years?

In 10 years, I want to have my Family complete and be living a good life (whatever that may be)! Id really like to have a full-time bow business sharing my creations with the world!

Anything else you’d like to tell us about?

I’m just a normal mom doing what I can to take care of my family. I love what I do, and I hope you can see that in my work. I feel honored when I know my accessories are apart of someone’s life, whether it be the bow they wear home from the hospital or one they wear in their pictures. Every bow is made with love, and I hope that comes through!
