The detail of Melissa’s work is outstanding! I’ve decided she must have the eyes of an eagle and agile fingers! She is humble and shares “As with most things, I teach myself by trial and error. I have always been creative, especially in drawing. Turning a figure on paper into an existing item is a small step.”
It’s not exclusively the detail that Melissa feels sets “Felt Creations” apart from others. Instead she sights, “Probably the diversity. There are absolutely no boundaries for me.” Melissa also does not mass produce her work. There is no assembly-line for “Felt Creations“, it’s all ONE of A KIND! ” Many craftspeople focus on a few specific designs and reproduce these; I try to make each item completely different and do not reproduce any design. It is all about one of a kind items. Together with that, I would say the level of detail that goes into my designs is also something to be proud of.”
What inspires the creations found at “Felt Creations“? “I am a bit ashamed to admit, but I actually do not know. I just get images in my head of something that’s cute or weird and simply have the desire to realize the idea.”
Melissa’s a regular gal. When she’s not creating something extraordinary from felt she enjoys, “Playing with my two cats, spend time with the boyfriend, drink tea, listen to music,… all the good stuff.”
When asked if there was a craft Melissa didn’t know how to do, but would like to learn, she said, “Needle felting and crocheting! I haven’t tried them yet but they look complicated.”
I admit it. I’m jealoug. Melissa says finding time to craft “Isn’t difficult: I am currently a housewife and after all the homework is done, I have plenty of time to create. I am very lucky!” Lucky indeed!
You won’t find anything tangible as Melissa’s greatest accomplishment this far in her life. She is happy and says, “Making the step to live my own life. I moved from Belgium (my birthplace) to Germany a couple of years ago. Now I live with my partner and everything is well.”
Ten years from now, “I would be happy when I would still be selling but preferably have more sales than I currently have. I do not wish to become so popular that hand-making isn’t possible anymore and I’d have to rely on mass production. The handmade aspect will always be important to me.”
Right now, Melissa is preparing for some new changes. “*Because I am going to move in the coming months and would like to lighten my inventory, I have reduced prices on most items extremely. There are items that used to cost 40 USD which are now on for $15! I will create new goodies once the current items have reduced in numbers.”
You should also take a moment to check out Melissa’s talent as an artist at her site, “Weed Fairy“
