Family Activities To Do in Brentwood

The Hopefield Animal Sanctuary

This is one of the best and most popular sights you can’t miss when you visit Brentwood. With over 500 unwanted, sick, or mistreated animals, the sanctuary offers a happy home for them. Many of these animals are those that have survived suffering from different causes.

This especially includes different forms of neglect. You can have some fun listening to their stories, what they have been through, and finding out what happened to some of them. Some of the animals you can expect to see include donkeys, marmosets, fallow deer, goats, ducks, horses, and rabbits, among others.

Thorndon Country Park

Nothing beats a family’s day out at the 500 acres of the South of Brentwood meadows, parkland, and woods on high ground. If you especially enjoy watching and being in nature, you definitely are going to have a good time here. The park is a haven for overwintering birds like siskin and redpolls and is even better during spring.

Thorndon is also much more open, and you can enjoy wide views while flying kites. The center of the countryside has a tearoom and shop selling Gruffalo-themed merchandise of the Gruffalo Trail. It also has a shop selling jams and a café that opens on weekends and during school holidays.

Gruffalo Trail

Gruffalo Trail is definitely worth its own mention. The walking trail, located in Thorndon North, is beautifully designed, recreating the Wonder of the Deep Dark Wood. You will also note that it is dotted with the different Julia Donaldson characters and representations.

Finding your way around this trail is not as hard as you would anticipate. You can also get an illustrating map to guide you right from the countryside Center. The walk takes about 45 minutes.
