Evenflo has come a long way since we were small. They have now extended their popular ExerSaucer platform into stationary jumpers with the new ExerSaucer Jump & Learn line. We recieved the ExerSaucer Jump & Learn Safari Friends and found it a delightful and engaging safari-themed play environment that helps baby exercise body and mind, complete with 45 fun learning activities and extra jump.
The Evenflo® ExerSaucer® Jump & Learn™ offers parents a safe and stable environment for their children to jump, learn and play. A variety of age-appropriate toys were developed in conjunction with the Child Development Institute to help baby achieve important developmental milestones. Spin and jump actions also provide baby with plenty of exercise to strengthen gross motor skills.
- 45 FUN LEARNING ACTIVITIES help babies achieve important developmental milestones
Baby Timothy thought the learning activities were some kind of fun! Although he hasn’t mastered his hand to eye coordination yet, he was still able to push buttons to create music on the elephant toy and to turn the pages on the ABC book which also makes music. He loved looking at the bright colors on all of the toys. He especially loved holding on to the toy slide rail.
The “Teething Toucan” is on a flexible rod and is easy for Baby to grab and gnaw. This is so nice to have on a jumper because so many babies love to chew and suck constantly. There is also a little mirror on the other side of the jumper that can be used as a teething ring.
The elephant toy with its GREAT BIG ears and soft, rubbery tusks is just precious! Baby can turn the music on with a flick of the trunk that also makes a wee-little mouse scurry. A piece of cheese lights up when Baby moves the mouse or the elephant. What a wonderful way to develop cause and effect skills!
On another side, there is a little book with the letters A, B, C, and D on plastic pages. When baby turns a page, a song plays. There are two pages and two different songs. Each letter shows a different animal. MES liked the book and she likes to think of one of the songs as “an elephant walking through the jungle”. It’s fun to watch her pretend to be the big elephant galumphing through the trees as the song plays. Above the book, there is a ring where baby can make two slides go back and forth.
There is also a bowl, which could be used for food, to hold a pacifier, or some other friend of Baby’s.
On each of the posts of the jumpers, another toy awaits Baby’s discovery. The cutest little giraffe with a flexible neck and sliding rings sits on one post. I can envision a bigger baby pulling the head down and flicking the giraffe around for a great deal of amusement! Another post holds a cute lion. The third post holds a jungle branch and a stuffed monkey hangs by his tail from the branch. He is removable and oh-so-cute! I can see Mr. Monkey becoming a fast friend for Baby. I can also see where Mom could hang another favorite toy from this branch provided it is not a danger to Baby.
- SAFE – Provides baby with secure learn and play environment
We felt comfortable putting Baby Timothy in the jumper and sitting on the couch while his Mom and I visited. Timothy’s little feet could touch the floor without pushing him up too far, the toys were safe and hazard free, and the part I like the best is that the jumper elastic is short enough and doesn’t travel past his head (I always thought that was a hazard on our Johnny Jumpers).
- Extra jump allows baby to exercise legs while being entertained
Baby Timothy LOVES to jump. He jumps on Mom’s lap while she holds him up, and the jumper allowed him the freedom to exercise his legs without assistance! When he finally discovered that the jumper could jump, he was wiggling and giggling!
- Take With Me Toys™ provide for customizable learn and play experience
What a great feature for any baby’s toy; although it is one that we won’t take advantage of too often. I like to keep the toys together, but if one of these toys becomes a favorite, we will remove it for floor time as well. I do have to admit that if I were a new parent, I would probably take advantage of this feature because with our first, we didn’t have many baby toys. Over the years, we have accumulated many, many toys, so perhaps this is why I wouldn’t use the removable toys as much. I do however like that I can switch up where the toys are providing added stimulation for Baby.
- Physical exercise to develop baby’s neck, back and leg muscles and improve gross motor skills
I love the spinning seat that allows baby to pull around to a new toy. The jumper is phenomenal for developing those leg muscles. There are three toys overhead that provide an opportunity for Baby to stretch and reach those head, neck, and arm muscles.
- Brings toys closer to baby
All of the toys were accessible to Baby Timothy. He could chomp on the teething ring – his favorite activity by far! At five months, he was able to reach all of the toys on the table. MES helped him reach the overhead toys and to see that they were also a lot of fun.
- Provides for easy and convenient cleaning
I just LOVE the fact that the toys are removable for cleaning. Our last “activity center” was so grunged up in the cracks and crevices that I needed a pressure cleaner to get the baby goo out.
- EXTENDED USE – 3-Position Height Adjustment grows with child to provide maximum product value
Once we figured out how to position the height (why didn’t I read the directions??!), it was amazingly simple and easy for an adult to do! Simply turn the knob to either the left or the right depending on whether the jumper needs to be taller or shorter. Again, what an improvement over our last jumper that had a button to press, a knob to pull, and then forcing it upward all in one motion! This feature is easy to use and will help as Baby grows quickly during the first year!
- CONVENIENCE – Machine-washable seat pad is easy to remove
I am always amazed at how sweet a baby smells and how much icky a baby can produce! The seat pad is very easy to remove and wash. With drool and Cheerios and more drool and mashed bananas, I plan to wash the seat often!
I was impressed with how easily the jumper went together after we figured out how to get the bottom stabilizing ring pieced just right; I have to admit that took a little bit of ummph.
It is a large jumper too, but I think that is par for baby toys in general. My friend and I had a difficult time getting it through the front door to move to her house for Baby Timothy to use, and the jumper wouldn’t fit in the back of her van with the seats up.
Both of us though were so impressed with the quality of toys and materials that are on the jumper. I love that this is a jumper that doesn’t go in the doorway and mar the moldings or provide a hazard with all of those elastic ropes hanging down. I know, I know, we all used them and we turned out fine; I even used them for my two biggest kiddos, but I have to say, it always made me nervous. I would be especially nervous using a door jumper with three kiddos – sometimes they forget that Baby is there and push and swing that jumper with just a little too much force. This jumper doesn’t allow that. Baby can jump and wiggle all day without worry.
Timothy’s mom was just impressed that she could sit and drink her entire cup of coffee while Timothy was entertained for 20 minutes. She told me that she hasn’t had twenty minutes without the baby in her lap since she gave birth. There are so many activities to stimulate baby that I’m thinking Mom might even be able to take a SHOWER while Dad reads the paper (because we should never ever leave Baby alone!)!
