I received a copy of The Best Dog Tricks on the Planet in exchange for my post.
Dog Tricks can be fun and make an adorable pet even more adorable. We have a petite dog named Bailey Mae who is down right cute! I’m talking cuteness overload. I’m not kidding:
That’s Bailey when she was a puppy.
Now she is our comrade. She is the heart and soul that listens to my kiddos bad days and licks their tears dry. She’s the greeter when we walk through the door. She is the snuggle bunny when we read and rest our weary heads.
She will be two on December 13. Part of the celebration is the commitment that we’re going to teach her new tricks. Something more than roll-over, sit, fetch and stay. WE want something fun and exciting that will WOW us all!
The Best Dog Tricks on the Planet by Babette Haggerty with Barbara Call offers step-by-step instruction on more than 100 amazing tricks dogs can do on command. It’s a book with full-color pictures and easy to follow instructions that help build the blocks of teaching your dog tricks from fun categories.
Not only does training your dog new tricks give you something to show-off at parties, but it also keeps your dog engaged and moving, and helps you become closer and more in-tune with your pet. And who better to learn from than the pros? Babette Haggerty has trained Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Retriever to bark the number of his major tournament wins on command, Curt Gowdy’s Rottweiler to say, “Go Reds” and Jimmy Buffett’s Maltese to dance on cue to “Margaritaville.”
The Best Dog Tricks on the Planet offers 125 of Haggerty’s best dog tricks, many of them featured by her famous father, Captain Haggerty, on David Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks.
- Bring Me the Ringing Phone
- Wipe Your Feet
- Weave Poles
- Open the Door
- Balance an Egg on Your Nose
- Strum a Guitar
Step-by-step photos, more than 500 of them, pack the pages showing you the tricks to the tricks. In no time your dog will not only bring in the paper, play dead and roll over but also count objects, jump into your arms, crawl like a soldier and take a bow.
The book is divided into categories making it easy to find a trick just for your dog:
- Fetch, Catch and Find: Bring me a tissue, bring me the newspaper, bring me a bag of leaves
- Circus Tricks: Walk on front legs, pirouettes, say your prayers, roll a barrel
- Help Me Out: sort the laundry, ring the doorbell, tuck another dog in, turn the lights on and off.
- Sing, Dance and Play Games like basketball, carry an egg, bobbing for apples
- Show off: reading a book, climb a ladder, scratch my back, fake limp
Of course, there is also a chapter to teach those basics: sit, stay, down and drop it.
