Drinking water is essential for good health and skin but what happens when you don’t enough of it? How do you stop drinking all those sugary drinks and sodas and embrace the clear stuff? What if you have gotten used to drinking caffeinated energy drinks? How can you start a healthier way of hydration?
For most of us, drinking water isn’t a thing. We know we should drink more but we don’t. As children, we got addicted to sugary orange juice or tropical punch, as teenagers it might have been the latest cola craze and as adults, we drink vitamin-infused waters or too much alcohol but not enough water. All those sugar-laced beverages take a huge toll on your body and can be hazardous to your health. The more water you drink, the better you will feel. Your body will be properly hydrated, function as it should and as a result you will have more energy. When we are dehydrated, we are tired, grumpy, sluggish, irritable, and we can get high blood pressure, gout, joint pain, impaired memory and concentration, depression, wrinkles and have poor digestion, stomach pain, constipation, headaches, constipation, dizziness, muscle cramping, and breathing problems. So, how can you start drinking more water? Read our tips below and find out more.
Carry a Bottle
Always carry a bottle of water wherever you go. It doesn’t matter if you are walking to work, or driving the kids around, take a bottle with you. You’ll be amazed at how much water you drink in-between errands and after-school activities. So, remember to sip, sip, sip.
Drink Before Every Meal
Often when we crave something or are hungry, we are actually just thirsty. Make it a routine thing to chug a full glass of water half an hour before every meal and snack. You will end up feeling fuller and you won’t eat as much. As a result, you will probably lose weight.
By the Nightstand
Keep a glass of water on your nightstand. Why? Simple, it will be right there waiting for you when you wake up. No excuses. Drinking water first thing in the morning is one of the best things you can do. Water fires up your metabolism, hydrates you after a long period of sleep (6-8 hours) and helps your body flush out toxins.
What? Yup, instead of drinking calorie-ridden alcohol when you go out with your buddies, drink water. You can put in one of those pink umbrellas and pretend it’s a cocktail or add a splash of lemon for a mock-vodka. And for an added benefit, you can offer to be the designated driver and keep everyone safe.
Take Water to the Gym
Don’t take soda, don’t take energy drinks, take water! Drink between weight-training sets, drink before a long run, drink after the elliptical rider, drink during your bike routine… you get the idea. Drinking water gets absorbed into your cells which is vitally important for you to stay healthy and maintain your heart, brain, and muscles functioning properly. It is very easy to forget to drink and get dehydrated during and after a workout, even if there is a water fountain in the gym. It is better to take a bottle with you that is next to you for when you need to drink.
