Different Types of Pianos

By Leave a Comment

One of the most popular musical instruments for people to listen to and play is the piano. You can take piano lessons and then play any of these. Pianos come in all sorts of sizes to fit in your home or other facilities. Here are a few types of pianos.

Different Types of Pianos

Upright Pianos

You can find uprights everywhere from elementary classrooms to the streets of New York City decorated by sing a song of hope. Due to their size, they can fit up against a wall or in a corner. They can have the sound of a grand piano but are far more versatile.

Console Pianos

These types of instruments look like an upright but are smaller. They are usually meant for home use so they can be designed to look like a piece of furniture. Some styles can produce beautiful music however cheaper models might have less quality sound.

Player Piano

This version of the piano is built to play itself with little help from a human. They are automated to produce music including pressing the keys all on their own. In decades past, the music came on rollers that indicated which notes needed to be played and in what order.

However, in this age of technology, computers are programmed with the songs to be played and do so with just the press of a key. These models are fun to watch and are great if the piano player must sign along with a group instead of performing the piano.

Keyboard

This version of a piano is also digital but it has a certain computer-like sound. They are usually inexpensive and are portable so you can take it wherever you need it.

You can prerecord music on it to play later.

You can typically see them in use in a rock music setting although high-quality units can be used in a more professional choral and performance setting.

Grand Piano

Possibly the best quality music you can have, the grand piano is typically meant for concert halls and professional performances. You can, however, have one for your home if you can afford it and have the room.

Grands have a flatter, oblong shape compared to an upright so they take up a large portion of a room. The sound is rich and luxurious so you will need to take good care of it to keep it sounding that way.

Due to their sound and the workmanship, it can be expensive to buy which is why they are usually kept for performance.
