It’s a great idea to secure your home and property. Unfortunately, most people make fundamental mistakes that prevent them from achieving total security. There are a number of solutions you should implement that will protect your property immediately.
Forgetting to Lock the Doors
Believe it or not, some people suffer from break-ins after they forget to lock the doors! All a burglar has to do is try to open the door to see if it’s unlocked and then walk in! This happens every single day. Always lock your doors.
It’s really common that people will disable their alarms. They’ll turn them off and then forget to put them back on. A disabled alarm is the exact same as not having an alarm at all. Leave your alarms on at all times. If you have to disable your system for some reason, remain cognizant that you did and turn it back on quickly! Make sure your system functions correctly periodically as a security solution, just to be on the safe side.
Flaunting Your Wealth
When you leave very valuable items in plain sight, some people might get the idea to snatch them up. Don’t post every fancy thing you buy on social media or leave your most valuable items where they can be seen by the public. If you do, you’re inviting trouble.
Turn on the Lights
It’s easy for burglars to creep around and do their business in the dark. They’re going to feel a lot less bold if you have the lights on. Light up your yard to avoid being an easy target. You can also leave the lights on inside when you’re not there. Use a timer to make it look like someone’s at home even when you aren’t there.
Use Cheap Locks
Sure, everybody loves a bargain. When buying locks, though, this can be a bad idea. You don’t want to purchase a cheap lock to safeguard extremely valuable items. There is a huge difference between higher-end locks and the cheapest versions. Talk with a sales representative to get an overview on the features before picking the one that’s best.
Trying to Hide Your Key
Burglars are smart enough to look for keys you may have hidden in obvious places. They’re going to look in your flower bed and under your doormat. At the very least, use a key-lock that has been specifically designed to hide your key.
Don’t Leave Ladders Around
Don’t be lazy and leave a ladder in your yard. That makes it way too easy for a burglar to climb into a window and steal. At least make it a bit more difficult for him, so he can’t simply stop by and climb a ladder you conveniently left for him and rob you blind.
You can’t stop all burglars, but you can certainly do your best to slow them down. Never make their job easy for them by making careless mistakes that let them in. You can fight crime by making rational choices that limit easy access. That will make the job of stealing from you much tougher. The criminal will likely pass by your home and move on to an easier target.
