The Chromecast Audio is a budget-friendly wireless music adapter that is revolutionizing the home-audio front. This puck-shaped device simply plugs into your speaker and casts your music while controlling it from your phone without interruption of other apps and programs.
I was excited to share this with my husband because he LOVES his podcasts. He always has headphones in, and I wanted him to be able to enjoy his “thing” without using headphones.
He pointed out that we live in a time when everything is “smart.” Bluetooth is everywhere, but I still had hope that this little device could improve on it all.
It turns out, it can.
The Chromecast Audio can turn any speaker or sound system into a Bluetooth speaker.
Play music on your speakers, new or old, wirelessly from your phone, laptop or tablet.
It also has a very cool feature, pseudo-Bluetooth. This allows you to cast your music to The Chromecast Audio rather than taxing your phone by using the actual Bluetooth. I have no idea what it really means, but I do know that my phone battery lasts much longer when I listen to music now!
The Chromecast Audio allows the user to stream music from the supported apps without draining your phone battery. Because let’s be honest, Bluetooth should have been named “Battery HOG!” Chromecast Audio also doesn’t restrict your range because it uses the Wi-Fi connection in your home, give you a streaming crystal clear hi-res sound.
That means I don’t have to plug my phone into a speaker and leave it while I roam room to room. I don’t have to run back and forth thinking I heard my phone ring or worry that one of my children has sent me a text. I can just enjoy the music. It also means I can be in the kitchen cooking–which I use my phone for looking up recipes, substitutes, and techniques, AND I can listen to my music.
I also appreciate the fact that my music is no longer interrupted by alert dings and chimes when a message comes through on my phone.
It’s also great when I get a call, that I don’t have to fumble with getting my phone off Bluetooth, so my phone call isn’t being broadcast through a live speaker to everyone in the house!
The feature my husband loves on the Chromecast Audio is the ability to sync multiple Chromecast Audio pucks at once. He can set up multiple speakers throughout the home and stream music simultaneously through them. It’s a great option for larger homes, or just enjoying the sound.
It’s really the best of both worlds, listening to music and taking phone calls, while at the same time walking through the house without music interruption. You don’t have to choose with the Chromecast Audio. It puts it all in front of you.
The Google Chromecast Audio is available at Best Buy for just $35 per device. It’s a great budget-friendly solution to make your home a sound system.
