Burt’s Bees is a brand I love. I’ve been using their lip balm forever! When I saw the Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub I had to try it. I’m not a doctor. I don’t have severe acne–an occassional break out here and there and some issue with blackheads.
Like other Burt’s Bees products the Pore Refining Scrub is 100% Natural. It features Jojoba Beads and fruit acid complex to provide dual action exfoliation that is gentle. The Pore Refining Scrub is designed to exfoliate dead skin cells and dissolve excess oil, dirt and other impurities to refine the appearance of pores.
This product also contains salicylic acid, which is found naturally in Willow Bark Extract. This is the key ingredient to help prevent the development of new blemishes.
Now that all that’s out of the way, let’s talk about my thoughts on this product.
A 4-ounce tube will cost you around $10.00. I felt this was average in comparison to other products on the shelf so I didn’t think twice about the cost.
I used the Purifying Gel Cleanser first and then followed with the Pore Refining Scrub. I followed the directions: “Wet face and apply scrub with your fingertips or wet washcloth, rinse thoroughly. Use 2-3 times per week.”
The consistency is rather thin for my liking. I used a tad too much several times.
It has a subtle, refreshing smell. I didn’t mind this too much.
Then it touched my face and I began using a circular motion to appy it. GROSS! It was like smearing Vaseline all over my face. It has a moisturizing component or something that is WAY too much for my preference.
I kept going…afterall, it cost $10!!! The Jojoba Beads weren’t “scrubby” enough for me. I really felt I had to mash them to get them to work and eventually added another exfoliating cream to slough my skin.
Rinsing seemed to do little to get rid of the “greasy” feel.
I used this product for a week faithfully. While it seemed to make my pores appear smaller, I couldn’t get past the feel of the product.
Sorry, Burt’s Bees, your Pore Refining Scrub just isn’t for me.
