Rosie the Riveter

The original Rosie the Riveter poster was created in 1943 by artist J. Howard Miller. Contrary to popular belief, this poster was for boosting morale inside a factory, not as propaganda to recruit female workers. Originally the poster was only on display for two weeks at the Westinghouse Company. In the 1930s the poster resurfaced and became associated with women’s empowerment and the feminist movement.
