6 Tips to Keep Your Puppy Healthy

Sharing is caring!

Although most people have dogs as pets today, some do not know how to treat their dogs. If you would like them to live a happy and healthy life, you need to know how to treat them. Some dog breeds live longer than others, but you can use any of these tips to keep your puppy healthy:

6 Tips to Keep Your Puppy Healthy

6 Tips to Keep Your Puppy Healthy

  • Healthy Diet

A study conducted in 2011 shows that dogs which are fed a healthy diet (fed on a restricted calorie diet) live longer than those dogs that are fed more. Therefore, for you to encourage a healthy diet for your puppy, you should consider reading reviews of the best puppy food before choosing the food to feed your dog.

Although you cannot change your dog’s diet without consulting a vet, you should research to have the needed information to ask questions, get opinions and clarifications from the vet. You should avoid feeding your dog sugars, generic food, excess sodium, and unnecessary fillers because you will have an obese dog in a short period. Obese dogs have high chances of developing heart diseases and joint problems.

  • Brush your Dog’s Teeth

Dental hygiene of your pet is very important because it can result in other related problems. Most pet owners overlook dental hygiene of their dogs by either failing to brush the teeth regularly or failing to brush them at all. If your dog’s teeth are not brushed, your dog can develop gingivitis, plaque and periodontal disease (a bacterial infection of the mouth that have been linked to organ damage and heart disease in dogs). For your dog to have healthy teeth, you need to brush the teeth regularly, provide dental treats and chew toys for your dog. You should also consider having a vet check your dog’s teeth regularly.

  • Follow Doctor’s Instructions

Even though your dog is healthy, it should visit a veterinarian once a year and twice as it ages. This will keep your dog in great shape because it will get treatment and check-ups regularly. When your dog is developing a problem, and it is spotted early in advance, there is a high chance that the problem can be remedied. Follow the instructions given by your doctor whether in feeding, exercising or giving medications to your dog.

  • Play with your dog

You should find time to play with your dog, regardless of the type of play. When you play with them, they get excited, and this keeps his or her mind in shape. With good mental health, your dog will grow healthy and be happy most of the time. If you are usually busy, you can have a friend, relative or any other responsible person walk your dog or spend time with your dog. A bored dog can become depressed, anxious or even ill.

  • Spend time with your dog

You can play with your dog for a short period or get someone to do it for you. But, you should spend more time with your dog to bond and know what is going on. Most pet owners who don’t spend time with their dogs end up not knowing whether they are sick, depressed or bored. The more you spend time with a dog, the more you will bond to form a great relationship.

  • Love your dog

Just like kids love to be loved, pets (especially puppies) crave love and attention from their owners. You should treat your dog well, spend time with it, feed it well and buy it presents. When you are not busy, walk your dog and enjoy every moment.

You can learn more about caring for your pet and read reviews on pet items at to make a more informed choice for your pet.

Remember, conscientious care, regular veterinary care and a good diet are some of the tips to keep your puppy healthy and happy. In case your dog makes a mistake, you should avoid scolding or be beating him/her because he/she will end up with bruises, depression or anxiety. The dog may also develop fear instead of love when he/she sees you. You should be your dog’s best friend.
