I discovered an IndieGoGo campaign that I wanted to share with you. As many of you are aware of three years ago, while we were away from our home, our home was burglarized. It happened in a very short span of time, and crazy enough I had thought about letting my children stay home.
While this break-in was intruders kicking our back door in, the recovery time from the break in was a long journey. The children didn’t feel safe. I didn’t feel safe. We continued to be burglarized (though after coming in our home, the events happened outside in our cars and yard).
Monica Thai is a single mom who works a full-time job to make ends meet. While her family was home, sleeping, an intruder picked the deadbolt on her front door. It was frightening and like all mom’s she wanted to protect her children.
After two years working with various designs and outreach to friends to test the early versions, LOKmate finally is ready for market. In addition to making it more difficult for a lock to be successfully compromised, it will prevent people with spare keys from gaining entry as well, and can deter young children, including those with special needs like autism, from trying to unlock doors meant to keep them out of trouble. It may even deter elderly people from unlocking the front door and leaving home unnoticed.
Safety is a crucial part of our role as parents. Even those without children should take an interest in identifying areas where safety could be a concern.
