Where’s Waldo? Personalized Book Review

My Tween LOVES to read.  Since she was six months old, she has loved books. We’ve tried toys and crafts and even video games, but she loves books best.  And I love that she loves books.

Recently, we received a copy of Where’s Waldo? a personalized book from kdnovelties.com, where your child is the star of the book.  There are so many characters and adventures to choose from that any mom could find one that her Child would want to read repeatedly.

Personalized children’s books are innovative and exciting. From the moment your child opens one of these books and sees his name woven into the storyline, a magical adventure begins. Your Child is the STAR of Each Story!™  Personalized children’s books will encourage children to read and enhance their self-esteem and self-image because they are the stars of the stories.

Reading

Tween enjoys reading from Where’s Waldo? from KD Novelties.

Again, it is easy to find one (or several!) books that your child can star in with so many different categories.  Isabella has been studying geography and Where’s Waldo? was perfect for celebrating her mastery of geography this year.  If you aren’t familiar with Where’s Waldo?, I’ll fill you in.  Waldo takes children on a journey – in this case, to places around the globe – and the Child has to find specific items in a look-and-find picture. It’s pretty fun for kids and grown-ups alike.  None of my children had even heard of Where’s Waldo? So this book was quite the hit when it arrived.  They have been savoring each page; during story time at night, they only allow Daddy to read ONE page of the story and find each object.  They insist this will make the book last longer!

But there are many other books, CDs, DVDs, and gifts to choose from.  Dora the Explorer, Looney Tunes, Spiderman, and other characters are a great way to get your child to read – especially when the adventure centers around her!  I love religious books.  These would be great for a church bag.

What Child doesn’t like to hear about his birth repeatedly?  Mine do.  Now, parents can order a personalized book that tells their Child’s birth story.  It is a gift for the parents as well as for the baby! Every story includes the Child’s name, date/time of birth, weight, length, doctor’s name, and hospital name. These personalized baby books also make an excellent gift for your friends’ children! They offer several different versions to accommodate a variety of situations. Each book is filled with colorful illustrations; they are indeed a gift that will last a lifetime! CDs that include your Child’s name will be sure to be a hit to sing along with.  They even have to Picture Me personalized books that include a photo of your child in the book!

It’s so easy to order a personalized children’s book too.  Choose the book, put in basic information, and write a dedication and order.  I love the commitment; parents or children can write a message to the book receiver – how special is that?  You can even see a book sample when you order with their interactive sample page.  In just a week or so, your book is in Your Child’s hands and ready to be treasured.

KDNovelties.com is a family-owned and operated company. All products are personalized, assembled, and shipped by them.  They do not sell third-party products to ensure their customers get the highest quality of service and product availability.

They believe that their personalized books and gifts help children build self-esteem, confidence and encourage them to read. Its mission is to promote literacy and make reading fun for children.

As a homeschool mom and former English teacher, the one drawback I see to the personalized books is that there is no paragraph formatting.  They do not begin a new paragraph after a person speaks. It’s a little difficult for me to read, and I think it relays a bad example to children as they are learning how to write their own stories; HOWEVER, I understand that page size creates limitations and to include the Child as the star character and as a speaking character, they have to sacrifice that formatting.

The bigger picture is that your child will LOVE to read if he is the star of the show… because REALLY, who doesn’t love to be the center of attention?

Lauralee Saad loves homeschooling her three kiddos: Ballerina, age 8, Big Boy, age 6, and MESS, age 3. She enjoys sewing when she can find a spare corner to set up her machine and dig out fabrics, cooking and baking – especially if the kiddos are helping, and enjoying a good book after the kiddos have gone to bed. She is thrilled to have welcomed a baby girl into the family on March 23, 2012.
