As we age, our skin, just like the rest of the body, suffers natural wear and tear. But a lot of what we regard as natural aging is actually due to sun damage and a combination of many other factors. This means, you can avoid it, and it’s never too late to start.
- Avoid sun damage
Most of the skin changes associated with age are avoidable. Most of the changes can be traced to one cause, sun damage. The sun’s ultraviolet rays penetrate the skin and damage the elastic fibers that keep the skin firm, and this allows wrinkles to develop. Sun rays also cause age spots on your face, hands and other areas that are often exposed to the sun.
Wrinkles that develop and their prominence can be attributed to a person’s lifetime exposure to sun rays. While you can’t go back in time and wear sunscreen, you can stop the damage that can occur now.
Avoid sunbathing; Always wear sunscreen, and use products that protect you from the ultraviolet rays on your face and hands and other frequently exposed parts of your skin.
Wear a hat; Avoid exposure to the sun when the rays are their strongest, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The skin is continually battling elements that damage it, like the sun rays, it’s constantly regenerating and repairing itself. For your skin to remain young and look amazing, it needs the right nutrition. Your skin needs antioxidants like vitamin A, the B vitamin biotin, Vitamin C, and E to remain unimpaired. You can get all these nutrients by eating five to seven servings of vegetables and fruits daily. A great place to start is including carrots, citrus, tomatoes, and green leafy vegetables in your diet. No matter your skin type or you can take action to keep it looking young and healthy.
- Moderate alcohol consumption;
A little consumption of alcohol will cause little harm to your body. If you drink, it should be in moderation. Excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks and beverages causes dehydration and makes the skin drier, and that makes wrinkles more visible than before.
- Don’t smoke
Smoking dramatically speeds up the aging process. Also, smoking is a prime cause of a myriad of other health problems. If you have the habit of smoking, it’s good for you to stop, if you can’t do it for an ageless skin, do it for your overall health.
- Use quality products.
Not all types of beauty products are good for your skin. Buy products according to your skin type and avoid products that contain harsh chemicals.
- Wash your face daily
For you to maintain healthy skin, cleaning properly is very important. Make a point of washing your skin at least twice a day, in the morning and later on before you sleep. Use a cleanser that’s gentle on your skin yet effective. With the right cleanser, you can keep skin free of environmental elements like dust and dirt that can be harmful to your skin. A clean skin looks healthy, fresh and ageless.
