In her new book Stack the Cats, which we received in exchange for a review, Susie Ghahremani uses silly cats and early math concepts that add up to big fun for young readers.
One cat sleeps. Two cats play. Three cats stack!
Cats of all shapes and sizes scamper, stretch and yawn across the pages of this adorable counting book. And every now and then, they find themselves in the purrfect fluffy stack!
This book has vibrant colors, an entertaining story, and art that just makes you smile.
A group of playful cats that each shows its personality as they get into trouble and teach the basics of counting up and counting down.
The author has a great sense of humor that comes through and the fact that math is part of this story is a bonus. I wouldn’t call it sneaky math, but it’s subtle.
Susie Ghahremani is also the illustrator of this beautiful book, with a simple color palette and delightful artwork.
I love that it begins as a counting book and then as the cats increase in number, the book gets more complex in mathematical concepts–four and five cats teeter and totter, but six cats can comfortably stack in two groups of three. The cats and stacks increase until ten cats are just too many!
The countdown begins as the cats exit by ones and twos, leaving behind a lone three-cat stack.
The story ends with the final page inviting readers to imagine how they would stack the cats and encourages young minds to play with key early math skills.
Counting to ten has never been so much fun and so adorable as it is in Susie Ghahremani’s cat-infested concept, Stack the Cats.
