Simply Delicious Amish Cooking by Sherry Gore

When I was 18 years old, I was a nanny. On one vacation we headed to Pennsylvania where I had my first sightings of Amish. I was fascinated and now, many decades later, find the simplicity of the Amish and their values reflections of my own core values. Sherry Gore has compiled short stories about various Amish families and included them with recipes she has collected from hundreds of Amish and Mennonite women in the United States in her new book, Simply Delicious Amish Cooking. It’s truly a great collection.

In true Amish simplicity the recipes don’t require many ingredients, there are few, if any processed foods or preservatives. These recipes are easy to prepare because they utilize ingredients that are staples in our own cupboards.

The book is divided into twelve categories for recipes: Breads and Rolls, Breakfast, Appetizers and Beverages, Soups and Salads, Vegetables and Side Dishes, Meats and Main Dishes, Seafood, Cookies and Bars, Pies, Cakes and Frostings, Desserts and This and That.

While every recipe does not have a photo, there are two photo sections in the book where many of the recipes are pictured.

Gore, joined the Amish-Mennonite faith later in her life, showcases the various Plain communities across the world. Simply Delicious Amish Cooking features more than 300 recipes with cooking methods, ways of entertainment and family traditions between the covers.

Visit the tropics with Key Lime Pie, Grilled Lime Fish Fillets, or get down with some comfort food of Fried Chicken and so many more recipes!

This is a great recipe book for those looking to simply their cooking without sacrificing the flavor and variety.

While she realizes there are the tried and true endorphin-inducers like exercise, being thankful and eating healthy, she prefers to live in the fast lane: real butter, a new recipe with a gazillion calories and laughing until she sobs…and of course blogging. She’s perky, quirky, dorky. A Utah native and NC transplant with an appetitie to taste the world, meet its desserts!
