Growing up I read A Wrinkle In Time it was science fiction that was epic. This week we read Sci-Fi Junior High by John Martin and Scott Seegert. It is a great book.
When it arrived, I’m not sure who was more excited. My kids or my husband. Then we started reading it together and they all came back night after night. They each begged for “one more chapter” when we reached our reading end.
The book is about a boy named Kelvin. He’s the son of two super genius scientists. That automatically makes him a super genius himself; right?
Um, if so, that trait may not have kicked in just yet.
Kelvin’s parents are transferred to new jobs on the Galactic Science Hub.
Starting all over again at Sciriustrati Fibroculareus Junior High school isn’t exactly what Kelvin had planned. He’s back to school projects, new teachers and making new friends.
There’s a lot of change. Anti-gravity buttons teachers use to keep kids in control, food fights, and the staff and his peers represent all the diversity in the galaxy. He has a science teacher who is a gas cloud. A classmate whose family is water based and travels in a portable aquarium.
When Kelvin and his friends find themselves in a difficult situation, they are forced to break into his dad’s lab to complete a school project. What they didn’t anticipate is Erik Failenheimer, an evil scientist. He’s determined to get a secret element from the planet Zorb and take over the universe.
Failenheimer’s plan goes wonky and he becomes trapped in Kelvin’s sister’s stuffed animal, Mr. Fluffles. Sure, he can spy on Kelvin’s family. He can commandeer a giant robot. But, let’s face it, it presents a few obstacles to ruling the universe.
Sci-Fi Junior High is the first outside acquisition for the James Patterson “Jimmy” line of books. It’s a fun book with a great story, many illustrations that boost the humor and support the text, middle school elements, and science fiction!
Traveling outside the galaxy isn’t new for Martin and Seeker. Their Vordak the Incomprehensible series is proof.
My son loves the space dog. He accidently drank matter replicating fluid and can eat rubber balls and spit out replicas of things.
It is a book once we finished my children asked if there were more stories of Kelvin. Sci-Fi Junior High is the first in a series so watch more fun adventures with Kelvin and his friends.
Presented by James Patterson’s new children’s imprint, this gleefully illustrated space adventure is a laugh on every page. That’s a lot of laughs!
About Sci-Fi Junior High:
Kelvin Klosmo isn’t just the new kid at school – he’s the new kid in the galaxy! Welcome to Sci-Fi Junior High: an inter-galactic space station with students of all shapes, sizes, smells, and… slime content. As the son of Earth’s two most famous geniuses, Kelvin isn’t just the smartest kid in the world….he’s the smartest kid in the UNIVERSE. At least, that’s what everybody at Sci-Fi Junior High thinks.
So, maybe Kelvin lied a little about being a genius to fit in. And maybe a mad scientist is about to take over the universe unless Kelvin can stop him.
Maybe everyone is doomed.
Well, at least Kelvin won’t have to worry about math homework anymore.
Sci-Fi Junior High is an out-of-this-world story about friendship, accepting our differences, and the fight against evil… bunnies. Yes, evil bunnies – don’t ask.
