Disney has created the buy once, watch everywhere movie service called Movies Anywhere.
Movies Anywhere is a cross-platform support for (almost) all the digital movies you have ever purchased. Gone are the days of watching a movie with one video app from the company you purchased.
With Movies Anywhere, your iTunes movies will now show up in Amazon Video and vice versa. Same for any movies you’ve bought from Google Play or Vudu.
How about all those movies you redeemed codes from the Blu-Ray cases? Yep, they’re now available…everywhere.
We’re talking 7,300 movies with more added over time.
Movies Anywhere is currently available only in the United States.
It was so easy to get started with Movies Anywhere.
Simply Sign up for a Movies Anywhere account. Each Movies Anywhere account can have one master account and several subaccounts, each with their own parental controls (rating restrictions, etc.) and recommendations.
Next, Link your retailer accounts. This is where the magic happens. It’s how all your movies are brought together. A list of video providers is shown on the screen, starting with Vudu. As you click to link with Movies Anywhere, you will be asked for permission to join your existing Amazon, iTunes, Google, Vudu account with the new Movies Anywhere account. Select “yes, ” and then all your movies from the participating studios are added to your Movies Anywhere library.
Once you’ve connected Movies Anywhere to each digital retailer, your movies will be available across all of them. Previous and future purchases will all automatically be added and synced without you having to do anything.
Movies Anywhere supports digital movies from all of the following studios:
- Disney (including Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and Pixar)
- Sony Pictures
- Twentieth Century Fox
- Warner Bros.
*Paramount Pictures and Lionsgate are not currently participating.
From here, you can begin WATCHING MOVIES.
One of the great things is that you can download the Movies Anywhere app, but you’re also free to stream content with the app you prefer whether it’s Amazon Video, Apple’s TV app, Google Play Movies, etc. It’s up to you. Whenever however you want.
Movies can also be downloaded for offline viewing.
My kiddos love this feature because they can use the Movies Anywhere smartphone app to download movies and watch later, even without a Wi-Fi connection.
You can stream on four different signed-in devices at the same time. To watch the same movie on different devices simultaneously, you can only do that on two of them at once.
TV shows aren’t included. Movies Anywhere only supports movies.
Only full purchases or UltraViolet redemptions. Rentals don’t work.
Let’s talk about the Ultraviolet redemptions. You can redeem digital codes directly through Movies Anywhere. There’s no longer any need to use Vudu or another UltraViolet app. Movies Anywhere, allows you to enter your movie code to add the digital copy to your library, and then, for example, Disney Rewards, you can simply click the link that appears when you enter your movie code, and it will connect you to DisneyRewards.com and automatically add the points to your DisneyRewards accounts. It is a great time-saving feature.
Continue to buy movies wherever you want, and they’ll automatically find their way to your Movies Anywhere library, as long as it is from a participating studio.
Through the Movies Anywhere app you can also explore for new releases, popular titles and studio releases.
We watched the original Alien as part of our October thriller marathon. The kiddos loved it!
Movies Anywhere is one of our favorite apps and with the Holidays coming up, it is the perfect side-kick to road-trips, or hanging out during winter break.
