I received a Fizzics Waytap in exchange for this post. All opinions and my love for draft beer are my own.
Let’s talk beer. I like it, but I like it better with a fresh draft beer taste. Going to a pub or brewery solves the problem, but I typically don’t drink when we are out. I like beer, but I like it at home.
This being said, the struggle becomes how I can get the draft taste from the can or bottle that I like, without leaving home? The Fizzics home draft system solves this problem.
It isn’t a placebo effect or faux science. The Fizzics really does make a difference.
Machines called sonicator baths create a similar effect. It’s typically used in labs to flatten beer for tests, but when sonication first starts, the beer’s fizz rises.
The Fizzics doesn’t use any gas canisters or kegs and is easy to set up and easier to use. You’ll need four AA batteries, The Fizzics, a bottle or can of your favorite beer and a glass. It’s really that simple.
Pop the top of The Fizzics and insert the four AA batteries.
Press the button on the front and lift The Fizzics canister.
Open your beer and set inside the base.
Replace The Fizzics canister, ensuring the metal hose runs is inside the beer.
Grab your glass.
Hold the glass at a 45-degree angle and pull The Fizzics handle.
The Fizzics uses sound waves to shake up the bubbles of your beer. Its goal is to make the beer more as it came from the tap of your favorite pub or brewery.
The Fizzics does smooth out the flavor. Science is freaking amazing!
I thought it accented the sweeter flavors and muted the more bitter flavors. The beer is bubblier and has a nice head, making it LOOK like it was poured from the tap.
For the perfect like-draft-taste and look, The Fizzics suggests you fill your glass 2/3 up and then stop. Note The Fizzics pours a second or two after you release the tap.
Once your beer is 2/3 full, push the lever away from you. This calls the technology that The Fizzics is known for–creating the perfect head for your beer. It makes a subtle tingling sound as it creates the head.
Note, there is no warning that your beer is almost gone. When it is, the Fizzics sputters liquid that gets on the surrounding areas.
This being said, when the beer is gone. It’s gone. The Fizzics gets every last drop of beer. There’s not a swig left.
Clean up is just as easy. Set a glass of warm water in the canister and run the system. The tubing cleans. I recommend this if you are switching beers also.
The Fizzics is a fun, simple-to-use system. It has a very slight learning curve
I like that it makes beer creamier. On the IPAs, it takes away that hoppy bitterness to some degree.
The Fizzics is great for the casual beer drinker or craft beer enthusiast. It’s great for just one or for when you have folks coming over for the game. I do think a group setting would give the Fizzics the most value, but I don’t drink a lot of beer, so that may be why.
If you like beer and enjoy creamier, sweeter flavors, the Fizzics is an excellent choice. It isn’t an exact replica of beer on tap, but it’s darn good.
