After four days of long, hard days, Day 5 took its victims.
My dad could not get out of bed.
His legs are cramping and he just keeps saying he is exhausted.
I’m not going to judge.
In four days, my dad and husband:
- removed cabinets and demolished the kitchen (in spite of the snake skins).
- They demolished the bathroom.
- They demolished the living room, hallway, and a bedroom.
They cleaned it all up and threw it in the dumpster.
They have also fixed a leaking water valve from the main line, which required them to dig a trench about 60 feet long to secure the leak.
My dad is no spring chicken at 72. Last month he was diagnosed with leukemia. I don’t think the reality of diagnosis set in until he got up to his armpits in demolition.
He’s a trooper.
My husband’s back is tight, so he now has a back brace.
They both need a long break for their body to heal.
So? Today, Day 5, they rest.
