Laundry is a big chore at our house. We do three to four loads a day. The hamper doesn’t have a bottom. It’s a full-time job and laundry soap is a large portion of our budget. We want something that is effective and works for even the most sensitive skin.
Good laundry detergent is expensive and your typical detergent has chemicals that are harsh on your skin and are not that great for the environment…
I love trying eco-friendly solutions so I was really excited to try soap nuts since they are cost-effective too! One 250 gram bag of Cleaner Planet soap nuts can wash 80-100 loads of laundry the cost varies depending on how much you buy at one time, but can cost as little as $.13 per load of laundry – which is fantastic!
Not only do I love that these soap nuts are eco-friendly and easy on your wallet, but they are easy to use too! I love not having to measure out liquid detergent. I can just leave the bag in the washer until it’s time to change the nuts. I will admit that sometimes it’s hard to find the little bag and it tries to sneak into the dryer with the clothes!
The soap nuts themselves smell strong, kind of like vinegar, which doesn’t bother me at all because I love vinegar and I clean lots of stuff with vinegar. What is important is that my laundry does not smell vinegar-ey when it comes out of the machine – it smells fresh, but not artificially scented fresh. It just smells clean, it’s fantastic! The clothes coming out of the dryer have no scent, which is kind of nice. I honestly don’t think I will go back to using normal detergent because I really love using soap nuts!
Plus, once the soap nuts have worn out and are ready to be disposed, I toss them into my compost bin which is great! Less waste!
