Play List for Fourth of July

Get into the patriotic spirit with our handpicked Fourth of July playlist! Celebrate Independence Day with a mix of classics and summer anthems.

This afternoon, as I prepared potato salad, made strawberry pie, and readied myself for company, Li’l Man came in to ask what I was making. I replied, “A feast worthy of our Fore Fathers.”

Li’l Man pondered this and then said, “Hmmm..I don’t remember meeting our Fore Fathers.”

We had a wonderful talk about how America came to be so great and the men who died and pioneered the way to our freedom. When The Divine Miss M entered the kitchen, Li’l Man shared with her that we were making a feast for our Fore Fathers, and they were a long time ago, but we were giving thanks for them.

As Li’l Man left the kitchen, he was singing Lee Greenwood’s “Proud To Be An American”. It made my heart thump with pride!

It was the perfect introduction for our Fourth of July celebration and we carried on the patriotism with Slacker. They have created a program for their “4th of July Celebration” station that is fantastic! It is a mixed genre of songs that celebrate Independence Day with musicians like The Kingsmen singing Louie, Louise, Kenny Loggins (Footloose), Katy Perry (Firework), Madonna (Holiday), Bruce Springsteen (Glory Days), Li’l Man’s choice, Lee Greenwood (Proud to be an American) and my absolute favorite, Elton John (Crocodile Rock). It’s not just these popular songs but true classics like Battle Hymn of the Republic by Leonard Bernstein, The Stars and Stripes Forever and Johnny Horton’s Battle of New Orleans.

The 4th of July Celebration station is available everywhere LiveOne is: on the web, iPhone, iPod, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Windows Phone 7, Android, Nokia and Palm smartphones as well as their recently released iPad app, which has become very popular. There is no charge for this service.
