Holiday Gift Guide: Adopted Ed

Adopted Ed by Darren Maddern brings to light the topic of adoption. November is National Adoption Month. I was not adopted, nor were my siblings, though as the oldest I’m certain I tried to convince them all that they were! I have seen the joy of adoption many times through my friends and am always amazed at how strong the love is in that family unit. It truly is a gift for both the child and the family.

I strive to give my children balance in all things. Adopted Ed is the perfect way to share with my children the beauty of adoption. Maddern shares the story in easy to understand language and beautiful illustrations of an adopted little boy and his journey through his young years. It is easy to read and I love that it delivers a message of acceptance, empowerment and opened a discussion in our home on the subject.

It brings to light the reality of bullies, though Eddie, the adopted boy, is just like any other child. As any mother would, she offers her adopted son, Eddie words of encouragement that help him develop and overcome the situation!

Little by little, Eddie begins to wonder about his birth parents and begins to learn more about where he came from and discover himself.

I was impressed by the conclusion where famous people who have been adopted are listed. Some of them I was familiar with like Faith Hill Others I was truly inspired by, Marilyn Monroe, Richard Burton, Edgar Allen Poe, and Alexander The Great.

About the author:

Darren Maddern is just one of the many millions of adopted people throughout the world today.

Born in England, Darren was adopted when he was only 10 days old by Don and Dolly Maddern, an American military couple who were stationed at an American Air Force base just outside of Oxford.

Throughout his life, Maddern has been asked about being adopted. Through candidly sharing his story, he’s helped many adoptees, parents of adopted children, and parents considering adoption.

Adopted Ed is dedicated to both his adopted and biological parents with a special dedication to his mom, Dolly Maddern who passed away in 2000, and his pops, Don Maddern who joined her in 2009. It’s also dedicated to every adopted man, woman, and child to remind them that they too are truly – SPECIAL.

You can find Adopted Ed at Amazon.com.
