It’s arrived. The kick-off to Mommy’s Memorandum’s Mother’s Day Event. I can think of no better way to start an event paying tribute to Moms than with my own Mom.

In Fifth Grade, I took ceramics and brought home two giraffes I had glazed for my mom. She thought they were beautiful–I’m sure she was a tad biased. She still has those two giraffes and her collection has grown through the years. It even includes a Restaurant/Tavern that plays on the word “Longnecks” for giraffes and beer.

My mom has always been a businesswoman. Throughout my life, she has had her own business. At the moment, my mom and dad own a restaurant and tavern on the Marshall Bypass in Madison County, North Carolina named, Longnecks. 

Let me first say that my mom can cook. I have very fond memories of my mother cooking. In my Kindergarten days, she made huge jack-o-lantern cookies, adorned with candy corns and black licorice lace. As I grew older, my mother’s cooking became more creative, Baked Alaskas and a complete Thanksgiving Dinner done in the microwave when microwaves were “new”. In my teenage years I’d come home to fresh-baked pecan tortes, cinnamon sticky buns, baked chicken, ribeye steaks and pork egg rolls, amazing soups, salmon and more. As a new bride, I remember my husband and I talk about growing up. His parents had made the same wage and raised the same number of children and yet our dinners were worthy of Kings and Royalty while my husband’s family ate a lot of chicken and rice.

Now the love is being shared with those who walk through the doors of Longnecks Restaurant. Entrees at Longnecks are steaks, chicken, ribs and giant salads. Sandwiches like the Bigger, Better Burger–imagine sinking your teeth into a 10-ounce char-grilled burger on a sesame seed roll, with your choice of American Cheese, jalapenos, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and onion or try the  HillBilly Philly–6-ounces  of USDA CHOICE SIRLOIN, pieces served on a hoagie roll with onions, peppers, and mushrooms. The menu changes often and there’s always home-made dessert!

The outside is misleading. The inside is elegant with white table cloths, buttery yellow walls, and black chairs. It’s beautiful!

As an added bonus, on the other side of the restaurant is Marshall’s First Tavern since 1948. Enjoy the humor of my dad and the company of locals while drinking your favorite beer or wine. There’s a large selection so pull up a chair and enjoy the atmosphere and people.

Longnecks has a live band every Friday night and hold frequent pool tournaments. It’s a great hang out. Dinner, Tavern, and entertainment is sure to make it fun stop to meet friends, take a date or gather with family.

Longnecks is just ten minutes from Weaverville, NC takes US 25/70 towardsMarshall, NC. Do NOT take Business 25/70, stay straight on the 4 lanes until it narrows to 3 lanes, then 2 lanes and you cross Highway 213, then continue up the hill on the Bypass. On your left, you will see the sign for  LONGNECKS.

Longnecks is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 pm to 9 pm. The Tavern is open at Noon on Saturday and Sunday and 3 pm weekends.
