5 Great Diet Tips for Working Moms

Eat the meals that you make for your children. Most moms make a concerted effort to fix well-balanced meals for their children; ones that have a limited amount of fats and sugars. So, when it comes to creating your own meals for the day, you can save yourself a lot of time, effort and calories by simply eating the foods that you make for your children for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Snack smart. There continues to be a misconception that the quickest way to lose weight is to skip out on meals. The truth is that when you do that, you actually slow down your metabolism as it tries to hold onto all of the calories that it needs for energy. If you want to rev up your metabolic rate, it’s best to eat a few small meals, in the form of snacks, throughout the day. They can include raw fruits and vegetables, nuts and dark chocolate.

Sleep more. Did you know that when you are sleep deprived, there are hormones in your body that will cause you to feel hungrier and therefore, tempt you to overeat? While we know that it can be hard to even get in more than 6-7 hours per night, strive to have around 8-9, especially when you’re dieting. It gives your body more time to rejuvenate itself and enough energy to want to exercise in the following day.

Walk more. Although it would be great if you actually devoted 30-45 minutes, at least, three times per week, to doing some cardio and strength training, if your current schedule makes it close to impossible to do, at least, make sure to walk more. Take the stairs rather than the elevator at work. Take a stroll around the office grounds during your lunch hour and enjoy a walk through the neighborhood with your partner and/or your children in the evening.

Reward your efforts. Say that you’ve decided to do a bit of a detox and therefore, you have to cut a lot of things out of your diet. Sometimes, it’s easy to get discouraged if you are not making it a point to reward your efforts. For each week that you drink more water than juice, you don’t eat past 6 pm and you walk in the evening, make a concerted to do something extra special for yourself. It could be getting your nails done or going to an afternoon matinĂ©e over the weekend. The more you give yourself something to look forward to, the easier sticking to your diet and reaching your ultimate weight goal will be.
